Many users are unable to edit pages that they have made, and others will be unable to even access their edit screen. There may even be 500 errors or white screens for some users. These issues will mostly effect WordPress sites running older or unsupported themes or plugins, but may affect some brand-new sites as well.<\/p>\n

The process for fixing these errors is well known among WordPress developers, but for the many people who use WordPress as a tool and not a livelihood, this can be a major issue, and there isn\u2019t currently a clear source for information on remediating the issue.<\/p>\n

The only solution as of now is move back to Classic Editor plugin<\/p>\n

Installing and configuring the\u00a0Classic Editor<\/a>\u00a0plugin is the first and most important debugging step for problems with WordPress 5.0. The Classic Editor plugin will restore the editing experience from WordPress 4.x.<\/p>\n

  1. Log in to your WordPress dashboard at https:\/\/<your domain.here>\/wp-admin<\/li>\n
  2. Go to the Plugins section of the left-hand menu<\/li>\n
  3. Click the \u201cadd new\u201d button at the top<\/li>\n
  4. Search for \u201cClassic Editor\u201d on the right-hand side<\/li>\n
  5. Click \u201cInstall Now\u201d on the card related to Classic Editor (By\u00a0WordPress Contributors<\/span>)<\/li>\n
  6. When the installation completes, click \u201cActivate\u201d<\/li>\n
  7. Go to the \u201cSettings\u201d section of the Dashboard\u2019s left-hand menu, and open the \u201cWriting Settings\u201d link that appears.<\/li>\n
  8. Ensure that \u201cReplace the Gutenberg Editor with the Classic editor.\u201d is selected. (this setting has changed with new versions of the Classic Editor plugin. Now there are two settings \u201cdefault editor for all users\u201d needs to be set to \u201cClassic Editor\u201d and \u201cAllow users to switch editors\u201d needs to be false)<\/li>\n
  9. Check to make sure that you do NOT have the Gutenberg Plugin installed. If so, deactivate and uninstall the plugin.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
