Play Quake from your browser

Quake 3 was one of my favourites games. It was a rage when it was launched and a cult classics. Now you can play from your browser.

QuakeJS is a port of ioquake3 to JavaScript with the help of Emscripten.

This project started to demonstrate the feasibility of browser-based gaming, and what better way than with a classic game whose core gameplay revolves around the kind of responsive APIs that are available with HTML5 today.

So join me in playing this game at you can select maps and how many bots you want to play with. You can also join others who are currently playing the game. So what are you waiting for?

Edge Microsoft’s new browser

Edge Microsoft’s new browser is based on Google’s open-source Chromium. It feels faster and cleaner. Also it has good privacy control, by default for the new Edge is the so-called Balanced setting. It blocks trackers from sites you’ve never been to, means ads may be less personalised. Google is claiming it’s seeing the privacy light, but have you noticed that on Chrome you have to click on the Advanced tab before you get to any Privacy setting information? With the new Edge, Privacy and Services is near the top of Preferences.

In New Tab page there are four settings for the look of the page. Aside from the custom setting, new Edge offers Focused, Inspirational and Informational.

You can download the new Edge browser from

w3m command line browser for Linux or Mac

w3m is one of the easiest command line browsers for multiple platforms.  w3m is a free software/open source text-based web browser. It has support for tables, frames, SSL connections, color and inline images on suitable terminals. Generally, it renders pages in a form as true to their original layout as possible. The name “w3m” stands for “WWW wo miru (WWWを見る)”, which is Japanese for “to see the WWW” where W3 is a numeronym of WWW.

Why use a text browser:
It helps when you have a very shitty network connection. This is a live saver when you want to get things done super fast. Also sometimes it is easy to read sites without a lot of images etc.

Installing W3M on Linux
You’ll want to install the main w3m package and the w3m-img package if you want inline image support. Use the following command on Ubuntu:

sudo apt-get install w3m w3m-img

For Mac following command will install:

brew install w3m

You can use the arrow keys to move the cursor around or click at the desired location to move the cursor there. If you want to type in a text box, select the text box with your cursor and press Enter before typing your text. Load a hyperlink by selecting it with your cursor and pressing Enter.
Tab: Press the Tab key to position your cursor over the next hyperlink on the page.
Shift-B: will take you back a page.
Shif-U: If you want to load a different URL, you’ll get an URL prompt.
Shift-H: To view the help page if you want to see a more complete list of keyboard shortcuts.
Shift-T: To open a new tab and then you can press Shift-U and enter the new URL. Yes, it does support tab browsing:)

Let me know if you liked it and if you have any other suggestion or tool for the same in comments below.

Brave: Browse faster by blocking ads and trackers

Brave blocks ads and trackers by default so you browse faster and safer. You can add ad blocking extensions to your existing browser, but it’s complicated and they often conflict with one another because browser companies don’t test them. Worse, the leading ad blockers still allow some ads and all trackers.

Browse Faster
Load pages 2x faster on the desktop and up to 8x faster on mobile.

Browse Safer
Experience unparalleled privacy and security.
Brave fights malware and prevents tracking, keeping your information safe and secure. It’s our top priority.

Its available for Windows, iOS, and android check out now at

Visit new places from your browser itself.

Wouldn’t it be cool to visit new places everytime you open chrome or firefox. The extension pulls up a new image of a curated location from Google Earth to fill the background of any new browser tabs you open. If you want to learn a little more about the location you’re looking at, you can tap on the little globe icon in the lower-right corner of your window to be taken directly to the image’s location in Google Earth.
Try out today Earth View from Google Earth (Chrome, Firefox)

SqlPad Run SQL in your browser

query-editorI am always looking for a better SQL Editor for Microsoft SQL 2008 or above on Mac. Have never found any which were free and good as well (not I know of). Then I came across SqlPad its base on Node.js hence its quite fast and low on resource. Also It is open sourced :).

SqlPad is a self-hosted web app for writing and running SQL queries and visualizing the results. Its goal is to be a simple tool for exploratory data work and visualizations, ideal for data analysts who would prefer to work in SQL.

SqlPad is meant to be run on an internal network for a single team. All connections added to the app can be used by all individuals with access to the SqlPad server. All queries written can be run and edited by everyone on the server.

For more details on installing and running a SqlPad instance, see the Installation and Administration page.

I am really impressed by it, try it out I am sure will like it too.
